I am a native Spanish speaker from Colombia in Latin America. I graduated with a degree in Philology and Foreign language from the National University of Colombia. I am also qualified to prepare students for the DELE Spanish as a foreign language exam.

Whether you want to build confidence in speaking, you are preparing for a trip to a Spanish-speaking country, you are simply learning for fun or even if you are a beginner, I can help you accomplish your goals. During the lessons with me we can practice your grammar, vocabulary or talk about any topic of your interest, don´t be afraid to ask what you don´t understand, we are going to talk Spanish as much as you can and we will get to the point you really want to. Because I have knowledge of other languages like English, German, Italian, French, Chinese and Portuguese I can also use other language references in so you understand Spanish concepts and grammar better.

I'm a professional, dynamic, flexible, adaptable, easy-going, friendly teacher and eager for my students to succeed. My favorite pastimes are jogging and playing the piano. I like cooking and meeting people from different countries and cultures.

Build your Spanish mind!

Learning a language is completely different from any other learning process. While intellectual, it's very emotional. It involves muscles and subconscious thoughts; listening, and expressing yourself. Unlike any other knowledge, when you have to use it you cannot afford seconds to find the required data – the words to speak – but fractions of seconds. You can't translate back and forth fast enough—you need to THINK in your second language as you do in your native one.

Psychology states that it is language what structures mind. This is why we are so fast when using our native language—because it's the material of which mind itself is made. The only way to get to use a second language as an effective communication tool is by building a new mind in that language. This goal can only be attained by use and exposure. This is the process I will help you go through, with a tailored approach, until your Spanish mind is strong enough to go its own way in the Spanish-speaking world.

What do I mean by tailored?

Building a mind is a very unique, subjective process. On the one hand, you need to link sounds to meanings (preferably images, sensations, and notions, rather than words in your native language). Associations which are significant to the individual root deeper in their memory, and thus the learning process is entirely based on the student's interests, life experience, work, projects, etc.

On the other hand, each person has singular abilities and difficulties to incorporate a new language. Monitoring them and helping them overcome their difficulties implies a thoroughly personalized activity.

I am a native Spanish speaker from Colombia in Latin America. I graduated with a degree in Philology and Foreign language from the National University of Colombia. I studied for one year at the School for Translation and Multilingual Communication at the Cologne University of Applied Science, in Germany. I have a master degree in modern languages of the University of Palermo, in Italy, and another master in literature at the Bremen University in Germany. During my master I also did translation studies at the Porto University in Portugal. I have more than 6 years of experience in language teaching in several languages and international institutions like Cervantes Institute and Goethe Zentrum. I am currently pursuing my Doctor degree at New York State University at Albany.

I love to play the piano, and running, I used to be professional athlete, but now not any more. However I keep training on weekend to keep fit :): WIth my PhD studies I do not have that much time :(
